X8500, VPN Access 250/1000: References for the use of an external flash card
Example for preparation and use of an external Smart Media Flashcard (Bootimage 7.1.12 Patch 1)

1. Preliminary note

  • Presummed is an operating router X8500, VPN Access 250 or VPN Access 1000 with an internal Smart Media Flashcard (SMFC).
  • The current "Bintec Large Update" (currently BLUP 7.1.1) has to be performed successfully.
  • An external flash card has to be inserted correctly and without a write-protect lable.
  • The files on the flash card have "8.3" DOS-Format.
  • For some commands a TFTP server has to be reachable from the router.
Further information regarding Configuration Management can be found in the "Software Configuration Guide X8500 Family".

2. Formatting the external flash card

Input at the SNMP-Shell:

x8500:> fssh -n1 format
format check MBR and boot record
