Event Scheduler: Controlled deactivation of an interface
How to deactivate/reactivate an interface at a certain time. Example with a Bintec X2300i with Image 7.1.12 Patch 2.

1. Preliminary note
  • A router time starting from 1.1.2000 is a condition to use the Event Scheduler.
  • The configuration is done in the Setup-Tool, System, Schedule & Monitor, Event Scheduler (Time & SNMP).
  • A detailed description of the Event Scheduler can be found in Release Note  7.1.4.

2. Configuration
As an example the WAN Partner ("Test-ADSL") will be deactivated from 23:30 until 23:40,  afterwards it will be activated again automatically.

2.4 Setting the "Schedule Interval"
The "Schedule Interval" is defined with the variable "biboExtAdmScheduleInterval" within the "extadmin" table. The default value is 300 seconds when the scheduler is activated. Changing the value  (e.g. to 20 seconds) can be done at the SNMP shell.

x2300i:> biboExtAdmScheduleInterval=20

3. Function
Daily starting from 23:30 (router time) the next "Schedule Interval" will activate the configured "Schedule Event" and the associated "Schedule Command" will shut down the interface "Test-ADSL".

After 23:40 the next "Schedule Interval" will deactivate the "Schedule Event". The associated "Schedule Command" will enable the interface "Test-ADSL" again automatically.

4. Test
Debug messages:

x2300i:> debug all&
23:30:05 NOTICE/CONFIG: SCHEDULED: set var in schedule index 1: 1 -> 2
...
23:40:04 NOTICE/CONFIG: SCHEDULED: set var in schedule index 1: 2 -> 1
