Internet access via UMTS with a bintec R1200wu
This FAQ describes the configuration of an internet access via UMTS (T-Mobile) with a bintec R1200wu with bootimage 7.4.10 patch 3



1. Preliminary Notes

  • The bootimage for the bintec R1200wu has to be 7.1.10 patch 3 or higher.
  • This example uses a bintec R1200wu with bootimage 7.1.10 patch 3.
  • Only UMTS cards which are compatible to the R1200wu may be used (info at www.funkwerk-ec.com, PRODUCTS, Router, R1200wu).
  • This example uses an UMTS card "Multimedia Net Card GPRS/UMTS/W-LAN" (OPTION GT Fusion+) from T-Mobile with an appropriate serial number.
  • The configuration of the UMTS interface is done in the Setup Tool, in the "UMTS6-0" menu, the internet connection in the "WAN Partner" menu.
  • This configuration is only permitted with inserted UMTS-card.


2. Configuration

2.1 UMTS-Interface

As soon as the UMTS-Card is inserted correctly, the UMTS menu will be available.

The UMTS card is activated by entering the correct UMTS PIN.
For the correct "Access Point Name (APN)" please ask your provider.

2.2 UMTS WAN-Partner

The configuration of the UMTS WAN Partner corresponds to ADSL- and ISDN- Internet WAN Partners (as Dynamic Client, incl. NAT, Default Route etc.). In order to monitor the connection, the PPP Keepalives may be activated.

The only differences are within the Advanced Settings menu. Example:
